Herndon's NextStop Theatre Produces 'The Secret Garden'
The beloved novel, “The Secret Garden” by Frances Hodgson Burnett, has been transformed into a musical that will be gracing the stage at NextStop Theatre. It is “a joyful, entertaining story about the enduring power of love, through all obstacles and across all boundaries,” said Evan Hoffmann, director of the NextStop production.

New Art Exhibits to Open in Reston and Herndon

Many residents of Fairfax County have an appreciation for various mediums of visual and preforming art. Herndon's NextStop Theatre received two Helen Hayes Award nominations presented by theatreWashington for outstanding achievement in professional theatre in the Washington metropolitan area. NextStop Theatre was nominated for Helen Hayes Awards for co-productions with Forum Theatre Company and with Faction of Fools Theatre Company.

Herndon, Reston Galleries Attract Art Lovers

In January, both the ArtSpace Herndon and Reston GRACE community art galleries opened new art exhibits at their locations. ArtSpace Herndon located at 750 Center Street in downtown Herndon opened the soloist exhibit “In Warm Observations: People and Places” by artist Jill Banks.

Getting into the Spirit of the Holidays
Classical Ballet Theatre (CBT) shared some extra special holiday magic with this year’s presentation of “The Nutcracker,” performed at the 525-seat Ernst Theater in Annandale. A sellout, the production featured beautiful choreography, stunning costumes, and some of the most highly trained pre-professional talent in the Washington Metropolitan Area.

For this year's 30th annual Reston Community Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday birthday celebration the renowned Anna Deavere Smith will be the keynote speaker at the Monday, Jan. 19 community event. Her address, “Reclaiming Grace in the Face of Adversity," will aim "to highlight the issues of community, character, and diversity in America."

‘Peter Pan’ Recreated
Herndon High produces “Peter Pan,” or the “Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up.”
What do fairy dust, a vengeful pirate, and a flying boy have in common? The answer would be Herndon High School’s production of “Peter Pan,” or the “Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up.” The show, debuting in London in 1904, was J.M. Barrie’s most famous work, along with his 1911 novel version of the same story.

Herndon High Wind Ensemble Honored in Norfolk
On Nov. 20, the Herndon High School Wind Ensemble, comprising 81 students, performed at the 2014 Virginia Music Educators Association (“VMEA”) In-Service Conference in Norfolk. After Herndon High Director of Bands Kathleen Jacoby submitted a recording of the Wind Ensemble state assessment performance to the VMEA last Spring, the Wind Ensemble was one of only three high school bands selected to perform for over 400 music educators from across the state of Virginia.
