TechAwards Recognize Business Leaders, Innovators

The Northern Virginia technology community gathered at TechCelebration, the annual banquet of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), the largest technology council in the nation, on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The event featured the presentation of the second annual NVTC Tech Awards, honoring groundbreaking companies/firms, leaders and innovations in our region's technology community.

Winners included:

*Silicon Valley Bank, NVTC Associate Member of the Year;

*Marilyn Crouther of HP Enterprise Services, Tech Executive of the Year;

*Virtustream, Innovative Use of Technology;

*Optoro, Tech Company of the Year (Under $50 Million in Revenue); and

*Appian, Tech Company of the Year (Over $50 Million in Revenue).

In addition to the Tech Awards, the event also featured David M. Rubenstein, co-founder and co-CEO of The Carlyle Group, who made remarks in accepting the Pinnacle Award for his “extraordinary generosity and commitment to improve the quality of life of the community, region, state and nation.” Rubenstein, a financier and philanthropist, co-founded The Carlyle Group and helped it grow into one of the world’s largest private equity firms. Rubenstein also is among the group of billionaires who have pledged to donate more than half of their wealth to philanthropic causes or charities as part of The Giving Pledge and has provided funds to many of the region’s beloved institutions and universities.

NVTC also presented the Chairman’s Award to Pete Jobse, president and CEO of the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT).
